Google Reader

I’m using Google Reader as I have basically 3 computers on which I work, 1 work laptop, another personal laptop and another random pc at home, so I like the idea of using one interface website that remembers what I’ve read and what I found interesting(by Star-ring them).

So far Google Reader has been a valuable part in my online life keeping track of certain blogs and gives a nice and clean experience.

Wine Received: Clink to Win Prize

To start of, I first would like to thank Chris for posting this competition on his blog.

Chris posted about this competition on Facebook whereby you use this “Clink-to-Win” application to invite friends and make toasts and vote for other peoples toasts and hold this competition month-to-month.

This was brought to us by the people from Perdeberg Wineries.

Anyways, then I took part in this competition, and someone actually contacted me from Perdeberg stating that I’ve won.(view this post)

And today when I got home, what did I find ?…

72 bottles of wine (variety)

A real “Flying Saucer” on the West rand.

Flying SaucerOne of South Africa’s most oddest and unique houses, the “Flying Saucer” on the West Rand is up for sale. ( private property )

I’ve actually seen it online for quite some time, but while browsing some blogs this morning, I came upon a few other links of auctions in the US and others where there are also “Flying Saucers” for sale.

But of all the ones I found the South African one looks the most majestic and most impressive.

Proudly South African ! We even win in the alien race 😉

Scalability by YouTube video

This is one of the first online videos that I really-really found informative and found real interesting.

This is a video about one of the YouTube developers and he is sharing some of the problems they experienced in their growth, and shares some of the REALLY NICE tricks and hacks they did to get all the juice out of their servers.

They had just a handful of staff members involved with the creation and main development, just think about that profit sharing …lol

and WOW!!! they push out 10GB per second from their site!!!

WeGame Startup

Started by 19 year old Jared Kim(profile), WeGame is a site where users can upload videos of their gameplay, and let other people comment on these videos.Worst Weapons image

He even managed to  raise $500k(first round) and $3m in the second round of raising funds, which is quite amazing for a 19 year old !

I would never have gone for an idea like this, but as most innovative start-ups, you have totake the risk, and that is what Jared did, and well, congrats for him, for such an innovative idea.

Michael Jackson’s Ranch falling apart(on auction soon!)

I found a blog post on Boing Boing this morning about Michael Jacksons’ Ranch which is a really bad state.

Apparently Michael is deep in dept and needs to pay up, and the Ranch could go up for auction.

Amazon S3 Solutions

I was looking into Amazon Storage Services again (s3), as I was thinking of writing a small application for backing up my personal documents daily.

But before I start I just quickly had a peak at the Solutions catalog, and found quite a few nice solutions built around S3, and some other AWS(Amazon Web Services) components.

Also something very interesting is Amazons’ Elastic Compute Cloud (E2) platform .

If I”m not mistaken, Vinny Lingham also mentioned that they are looking at using cloud computing Synthasite – though I stand to be corrected on this one …

Amazon EC2 presents a true virtual computing environment, allowing you to use web service interfaces to requisition machines for use, load them with your custom application environment, manage your network’s access permissions, and run your image using as many or few systems as you desire.

To use Amazon EC2, you simply:

  • Create an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) containing your applications, libraries, data and associated configuration settings. Or use our pre-configured, templated images to get up and running immediately.
  • Upload the AMI into Amazon S3. Amazon EC2 provides tools that make storing the AMI simple. Amazon S3 provides a safe, reliable and fast repository to store your images.
  • Use Amazon EC2 web service to configure security and network access.
  • Choose the type(s) of instance you want to run.
  • Start, terminate, and monitor as many instances of your AMI as needed, using the web service APIs.
  • Pay for the instance-hours and bandwidth that you actually consume.

Suicide Blogger – 90 Day Tania

It’s weekend, and I’m going through my “2Read” bookmarks I add whenever something looks interesting but don’t have time to actually read in depth at the time.

I ran into this site a few weeks ago, it is about a girl that claims she is going to kill herself in 90 day – heavy mmm .

When looking at the side it looks like there went too much detail into it, and my assumption is that this is some marketing/student project where students are testing the waters and probably making some dough out of Adsense or something similar, or otherwise this could be a very interesting internet social study…

Apparently she has even been approached by some TV networks and received alot of mails of people that are trying to save her .

Also, all the videos posted look abit TOO overdone, also some indication that it could be a spoof!

URL of the site could also be a clue to this being a spoof :
