VHD Resizing with VHD Resizer

I work alot with Sharepoint, and have created myself various Virtual Machines for different configurations and some for presentations with a rollback to reset everything back.

One common error I also run into is assigning to little space on the virtual hard disk and thus running out of disk space. There is no real way to increase the hard disk space, although you can change the sizes of the partitions.

VHD Resize

I found VHD Resizer, which resizes your VHD to any size you wish.  But note you will have to increase/decrease the partition on the disk though.

Grease

Well, you all remember the old classic, again, browsing YouTube found some cool Stop Motion videos with Lego characters, and some babies doing tha GREASE THING.

IT Personality of the Year

It is that time of the year again, IT Personality of the Year

IT Personalities of the year

(taken from http://www.itweb.co.za/events/itpersonalityoftheyear/2008/ )

One of the more known candidates to me is Vinny Lingham from Synthasite.

The 5 finalists have been announced and the winner will be announced on the 5th of November 2008.

I must say from the list I just know about two of them, which is Vinny and Rob from Integr8, just shows need to get more in touch of what is going on in the South African IT industry.

Saying Good Bye…to my mouse :-/

Well, after being abit bored as this is a long weekend for me, I decided to go through my study and get rid of all unnecessary stuff lying around.

What I came up with was a heap of cd’s with old or deprecated software, even found 7 different versions of Linux lying around on CD’s which is outdated.

One of the treasures I found, was a mouse which I bought in 2000 and used up till 2007 before it started giving problems.(didn’t want to click anymore).

As you can see from the pictures, the mouse was really USED. And for a purchase under R100 bucks for 7 years of trustworthiness! Thanks SAHARA!

So I decided to throw it out, don’t know why I kept it in my drawer anyways…

No worries!

Ian this morning, fell asleep after he had his breakfast 😉

Taking a Break

I’ve decided that I need some personal time, and took off today and Monday, to give me a 4 day weekend.

I actually decided on this some time ago, and only tragically heard this weekend that I would have to attend a funeral of one of my childhood mentors today. So actually a good thing that I took off these days.

What am I going to do the rest of the time, well, I plan to :

  • Watch some movies on my new MVix
  • Go on a shopping spree to buy some clothes(got invited to 3 weddings in October, the 4th I did not get invited to;-)(this weekend))
  • Go for a nice Wimpy breakfast
  • Go to Potchefstroom to look at some property investment oppurtunities

MVix

After I ordered my DivX player I found a few reviews for the product and realized that the product won’t fit all my criteria, so I cancelled my order from WantItAll.co.za , and ordered another model from eShopper.co.za and also after some research found this to not meet all my criteria AFTER I ordered it…. so again I cancelled my order.

MVix

So eventually I decided to go for the MVix780D which I ordered on Monday(last week) afternoon around 17h00 from Nivo.co.za, and picked it up on Tuesday(the day after I ordered) afternoon as they are on my way to work in Montgomery Park.

I’m still playing around with my new MVix, and found a restriction that it does not support the new MKV format which is starting to come more and more visible these days. After visiting their site I found that they publish regular updates of the firmware and downloaded the latest firmware which has a beta release of MKV support.

All n All I’m happy so far, so when I’ve got some free time, I’ll try to publish a proper review of my MVix.

I checked MVix.co.za’s site and found that they already have a firmware update for MKV‘s which is in BETA but it’s cool to now have a device where there is constant Firmware updates.

DivX player on it’s way

After reading Imod’s post on his DivX player I just had to get me one too.

Div X Player

After doing some research I decided to go with the D-Link Div X Connected player(uses DivX connected technology), which provides much more than just playing movies, viewing pictures, but also has vast amount of expandability, as the player connects to your PC and all the work is done there, conversion, GUI processing etc.  This also means you don’t have to worry about Firmware upgrades, you just upgrade the server.

I ordered mine from WantItAll.co.za and should probably receive it next week.  Will post some feedback after I’ve taken it for a spin then.
