Foobar2000

I’ve been using Winamp for years.

Initially it was a very lean, quick and easy player for music, but after a couple of years of  enhancements it just got abit too heavy on resources(still I use it sometimes). My current Winamp installation memory footprint is around 50MB, which may not sound alot but when developing and you need that last few megs, it makes a difference.

I read on someone’s blog about Foobar2000, which is a music player which is very light, has support for various audio formats and finally which is very light on memory, currently I’m running around 10MB, which is not too bad.

I’ve been using it just for a few days, and so far it is doing what I want with no problems or restrictions so far.

ATM Bombing

Still on the ATM issue….  the next thing that comes up in one’s mind is the headlines in papers almost daily and that is the ATM Bombing taking place for the last couple of months.

About a week ago my one mate took photos of an ATM bombing in Roodepoort, West Rand, Gauteng.
We used to go to this shop after school when I was still in highschool, so quite disturbing that this craze is just next door.

ATM languages in South Africa and abroad

Just stumbled upon this post on BoingBoing this morning, where they posted an image of an ABSA ATM and talk about the

Absa ATM

languages that it supports, and people replying to the post talk about how ATM accommodate different languages in their countries.

eBlockWatch YouTube Channel and Cam Videos

I am a supporter of eBlockWatch and think it is to the advantage of the greater community and can help one learn and prevent certain risks as well.

eBlockWatch has launched their Crime Camera Clips section on their website, and also host their videos on Youtube under an eBlockWatch channel.

Here is a video of an armed robbery when one of the person actually got shot(not on cam though), but you can see how the criminals operate and how they approach the premises.

Project Fred

PROJECT FRED – Visit SiteFred

Project Fred is an entirely pointless program which counts the number of keys you press and the number of times you click your mouse, and uploads these totals to the Project Fred website. You can then compare how much you’ve been banging the keyboard with other users.

In Cape Town next week

Cape TownAbout 2 week ago I flew down to Cape Town for a quick “product pitch”, and I have learnt this week that we have received the order!

Yay, so this means for the whole of next week I’ll be spending my week in Cape Town designing and hopefully implementing a solution for our client in just 5 days(will be a Rapid Application Development project….why do we have RAD tools ????duh) .

All and all it’s nice to go to Cape Town, but now I have to leave my lovely wife and son(3 months old) at home for the week 🙁 .

So for other bloggers and friends in Cape Town, if you want to meet up for a drink or 2 just give me a shout or reply to this post so we can arrange.  I’ll be staying in a guest house in Bellville for the week.

See you next week  !!

Jake White on YouTube

Excellent initiative.

It seems Google SA has approached(I assume) Jake White and helped him start his own YouTube channel called Jake White TV .

In this intro video Stafford Masie, CEO of Google SA(previously from Novell(still awesome)) introduces Jake to the YouTube crowd.

Satisfaction

When I was still at varsity , Satisfaction from Benny Benassi was the in-song, just today found the “sexy version as well”.

Kulula vs Mango

Last week Thursday, I had to fly down to Cape Town the morning and flew back to Joburg in the evening, this time I flew with Kulula.com, my previous time I flew I flew with Mango.

So basically I was very impressed with the service, and on-time flights of Kulula, except for one thing. As Kulula is a private company trying to survive in the aviation world, they must get their funding from somewhere.  When boarding this particular flight, there was advertising on the in-flight luggage holders(above passengers heads) with stickers advertising the Kulula credit card.  After a while getting  bored on the flight, I had a look at the little magazine provided in the flight, where I also was bombarded with advertisements of Kulula partners and other ways to just take my money away from me.   Before we landed the hostesses went on about you can now go stay in this group hotel and can go hire a car at this car rental institution.  All the hard marketing started to really irritate me after a while.

In contrast, Mango is funded partly/indirectly by government, and they don’t have any of the advertising during their flights. I’ll fly Kulula again(they really make good jokes during the flight), but I just have to ignore all the marketing and advertising campaigns which is just too in your face.

Let’s Go to the Mall

Well, I’ve been watching “How I met Your Mother” tonight, and this episode is where all the friends discover Robin’s deep dark secret….

I love this series !
